The Tooth Extraction Process and Post-Surgical Care

When we extract teeth at West Town Dental Care, we follow a regular process that allows us to make your tooth removal cause little or no discomfort. We begin the process before extraction by giving you a local anesthetic to numb the area where we plan to remove your tooth.

Once we remove the tooth, we seal the area with dissolvable or removable stitches. If we use dissolvable stitches, you don’t have to worry about getting them removed since they will dissolve over time. If we use removable stitches, we’ll determine when you should come back to have them taken out.

After surgery, it’s important for you to relax. You should place gauze pads over the area and replace them regularly and as needed. Take the painkillers we prescribe and only eat soft foods until the area heals.

Avoid smoking, using a straw, physical activity, lying flat, and touching the area because these things will delay the healing process and prolong recovery time.
